KIM

YOUNGJAE

Born: 1959

Leadership: 1979 - 2000

Children: Woo-jin (Matthew), Dong-ha (Michael; deceased)

Died: 2000 (aged 41)

After the death of his father, Oh-seong (the founder of KARD), Youngjae was appointed leader of the gang. He maintained KARD's power and even allowed their profits to grow.

He was proud, satisfied that his father's legacy hadn't been failed by him - still, when Bong-hwa approached him to make a deal in 1998, he agreed. The war had gone on for more than three decades, with more lives lost than either of them could count.

Two years after the initial forging of the deal, however, Bong-hwa organised a meeting with Youngjae to renegotiate its terms and shift around ownership of the territories a little. Youngjae, however, refused and feeling insulted, Bong-hwa ordered Hyun-ki to kill him.

In 2000, Hyun-ki shot Youngjae to death in his house, and was witnessed doing so by Youngjae's oldest son, Michael (fifteen years old at the time) - and he did not stay quiet. In the following weeks, he organised multiple press conferences, trying to raise awareness of Bong-hwa's true identity (which many suspected, but no one could prove).

Michael was killed by Hyun-ki in July of that same year, and the murder was written off as a suicide.
